FirePro (Qld) Major Works Regional
The Origin owned power station has had the construction partners GE and CH2M Hill together with Laing O'Rourke leading up to a 750 person onsite construction workforce. The Darling Downs Power Station will be the biggest combined cycle power station in Australia and is a reported $780 million dollar project to the Queensland economy. The power station will emit about half the greenhouse gas emissions that a coal-fired power station using current technology would create and will use less than 3 percent of the water conventionally used by a power station of similar productivity. The project has been a worldly experience for many FirePro (Qld) apprentices who have been rotated with our dedicated regional contracts crew to complete the works.
Works at the new Oakey Army Base Multi Role Helicopter Hangar Facility have now commenced. FirePro (Qld) are carrying out the installation works for the new Foam Pop-Up Fire Protection System. These works are part of the $76 million dollar federal investment in the Oakey Army Base to upgrade facilities for the purpose of long term army aviation training. This has been another great opportunity for many of our apprentices to experience and practice their skills with levelling equipment, excavation and installation of underground HDPE pipe work and electrofusion.
