Logan based construction company, FirePro (Qld) has been recognised in Constrcution SKills Queensland's (CSQ) 'Promote Your Local Legend' campaign, for its strong support of local apprentices. FirePro (Qld) is the largest fire protection installation labour force in Queensland and has become one of the leaders in fire protection training. The company has a staff of more than 30 people, comprising 12 apprentices. Several of these apprentices were out of trade before being presented with an opportunity to recommence their training with the company. FirePro (Qld) General Manager, Janine Horrocks, said her company recognised the importance of supporting apprentices in the industry. "By hiring apprentices we are helping to ensure the future of a life saving industry. We believe we are assisting our people to develop not only trade skills, but also life skills side of work. Our apprentices have pride in themselves, their company and their industry", she said.
Janine added that her organisation took great pride in the company's strong training culture, which saw them win an award at the 2009 Construction Skills Queensland Training Excellence Awards. "We understand that apprentices need regular feedback, gentle encouragement and a great working environment where they feel part of a winning team. At FirePro (Qld) we have a formal apprentice review twice a year to set goals, discuss strengths and weaknesses and ensure they are on track to meet the requirements of their qualification", she said.
CSQ Regional Manager, Ken Barrett, said FirePro (Qld) was to be praised for its efforts in supporting local apprentices. "FirePro (Qld) deserves praise for the large number of apprentices it currently employs and for providing a pathway for out of trade apprentices. Its investment in training has helped it become one of the leading organisations in its industry", Ken said.
